I would go to the Oak Bar every year at Christmas time with a few friends for our annual martini drink. The only time I will drink a Vodka Martini and the only drink I can usually have in that evening as one order gave you almost two full martini glasses of a cocktail. I would then smile, bid my farewell and leave for fear of falling off my chair. Walking into the old Oak Bar, you almost felt like a high-class escort, not that I know what that feels like, but it was dark and mysterious and just screamed covert dalliances.
All that has now changed and the Oak Bar has become the OAK Long Bar + Kitchen. Still offering the best martinis in town but in surroundings that I feel happy to walk into and know I am going to have a great time.
After stopping by a couple of times since it has reopened, first for wine then for tea and more recently for wine and bar bites, I can confirm that I love the new space. It combines a happening vibe but still has that elegant, classy feel to it. The space has now completely opened up both in light and space and the new OAK Long Bar at the Fairmont Copley seems to be the place to be. It still has its gorgeous high ceilings, only now you can seem them as natural light floods into the bustling, amazing people watching bar.
The floors are a lovely dark shiny wood. The high windows draped in cream heavy curtains bring in an abundance of light. The soft sofas and comfy red leather chairs beg to be sat it in, and my favorites, the high back chesterfield bar stools surrounding the long bar had me walking straight towards them to sit down. They even have some that seat two if you are in the mood for being cozy. I sat alone for a while at the bar waiting for my friend and just took it all in. I ordered one of my favorite white wines; a St. Supery Sauvignon Blanc and enjoyed the sharp citrus tang of the summer wine.

My friend arrived and started with a fantastic burst of summer Watermelon Margarita while I continued to enjoy my St. Supery. For bites we decided on Powder Point Oysters Rockefeller and the Oak Board.

I haven’t had Oysters Rockefeller in years and these were fabulous tastes of creaminess with a hint of liquorice and garlic spinach and not enough with only three. Great for tasting but for sharing as an appetizer we should have ordered two portions.
The Oak Board was just overflowing with goodness. As we made our way through the cheeses and meats we had to order more and more bread, which our server was only happy to oblige. I much preferred the crusty bread than the crispbread it came with.
We were having so much fun, we decided to order a bottle of the St. Supery to share and so we could continue our people watching evening. What a fun evening overall. Perhaps we should have had more food and less wine but in the end I had a blast of an evening in this rebirth of the Oak Bar.
I am talking some friends into going back to the OAK Long Bar for drinks and perhaps dinner this time and I cannot wait. Perhaps we will even dine outside and do curbside people watching.
